Patrick J. Sauer’s full title of his article written in “Crimereads”, is “The Struggle to Tell the Story of An American Cult – And the Woman Who Escaped.” (April 24, 2026). His subtitle is, “To tell the Story of the ACMTC Cult & Sarah Green, its leaders’ daughter, author Harrison Hill had to push way beyond his comfort zone.”
Going through Hill’s newly released Oracle’s Daughter (some books differ in pages), April 7, 2026, I can see that Hill did extensive research. Sadly, he quotes outlandish & exaggerated things that spell “LIES”!!! Well, he doesn’t know Sarah, Maura, Julie & a dozen other ex-ACMTC members are spitting in his ear the things that never happened (or if some did happen, they are twisted out of content & context. Since his book is MAINLY about & against my wife, Gen. Deborah (married 55 years ago), we should know if what he writes concerning us is true or not.
Sauer starts with, “In the annals of infamous American criminals & crimes, cults & their messianic leaders hold a sacred position.” He goes on to mention the Manson Murders, David Koresh, M. Applewhite, Jim Jones et al. He mentions Helter Skelter, The Waco Inferno, Heaven’s Gate, the Kool-Aid saga blah, blah, blah, blah.
It is interesting, since Sauer brings up Heaven’s Gate (the suicide cult). In an interview that took place between Deborah’s attorney & NM’s State Police Special Agent Pete Baca (Aug. 29, 2018), Heaven’s Gate was brought up. On page 35 & 36 (of the 130-page interview).
The attorney asks Baca: “So is it illegal for a group of people to form an organization & for them to practice their religious beliefs even if their religious beliefs are strange or weird or bizarre; is that illegal?”
Baca answers, “No.”
Attorney asks, “Okay. Isn’t that what Heaven’s Gate was doing?” The interview continues:
Attorney asks: “Did this group, Heaven’s Gate, did they have a leader or” –
Baca: “Yes”.
Attorney: “… more than one leader?”
Baca: “No. Well, they had one leader & she controlled her husband.”
Attorney: “What was her name?”
Baca: “Deborah Green also known – by another name.”
I give this example to show our readers how things can be wrong, a lie. Heaven’s Gate disciples committed suicide in the late 1990s. This interview was in 2018 – Baca believes Heaven’s Gate is still alive & Deborah is its leader!!!
This is why I take the time & effort to give “the other side” to all the articles / visual docs etc. Here is a prime example from the article at hand:
“Sarah Green… was literally born into a cult.” Other articles repeat this same lie. The ACMTC “cult” did not start until 1983/84. Sarah was born in 1973. This may seem insignificant to a casual reader but these – added up – can & does change the narrative/genre. This is Hill’s way of writing.
But back to Sauer’s article, “a cult run by her mother.” This is only half-true. Both of us started ACMTC. The first newspaper article wrote: “… And battle is the right imagery. Jim Green, the ministry’s leader, fills his monthly publication, Battle Cry Sounding…” “If you want a nice family church, this ministry is not the place, said Lila (Deborah) Green, his wife & colleague in the ministry…” Sacramento Bee, Sept. 25, 1984, by Diane Divoky. (Title of her articles, “Capital ‘Prayer Warriors’ Fight Myriad (sic) Demos (demons) with vigor.”
After Sauer made a FALSE statement about Sarah being born in (ACMTC) this cult, he says something they cannot & has not ever been verified by anyone – including law enforcement (& we have been investigated by local law officials – state & country – FBI – CIA – DHS). He writes: “The well-armed paramilitary group… found a home in NM desert…”
This guy doesn’t know squat about us. He merely writes to excite his readers. Just where is his evidence of us being WELL-ARMED???
Sacramento Bee
Allow me to quote from other news articles. And trust me, they were no friends of ACMTC; they were hostile. (we have other media outlets (paper/TV) that ran many stories about us during our stay in CA. Channel 13 (Sacramento) ran many reports on ACMTC over the years – 1983-1989. Other media outlets did the same. San Francisco et al. did both TV./newspaper. Smaller outlets all over Calif. ran articles / TV reports, as did NV/AZ in those days, including OR.
It was well established that ACMTC did not train/use physical weapons! ACMTC was known for being an un-gunned army involved in spiritual warfare for souls. So, why does this LIE keep being propagated as being true? Lies sell: Truth doesn’t!
House of Horror?
Really? Sauer continues: “… A far-out-off-the-grid HOUSE of HORROR-WORSHIP (my emphasis) where Deborah, & her loyal partner Jim, DESTROYED lives in their almighty name, ACMTC.” Wow! “House of horror”? Just how does he know this? Oh, yes, Sarah told him. Yeah, our adulterous daughter with an axe to grind told Harrison Hill & P.J. Sauer repeats all this BS! And, why does Sauer use the word “partner” instead of “husband”? Partner in today’s usage refers to either a homo/lesbian relation or a non-marriage one. We are neither. We are legally married (55 years!). Sarah uses this word in reference to her lover (man or woman?).
Don’t Want to Bore You!
This author goes on to regurgitate, PUKE up what others have said & written about us: kidnapping, starvation, physical/sexual abuse etc. BS that Hill had written about in the Cut/Oracle’s Daughter. Hill started his “non-fiction” investigation back in 2020. He (Hill) states: “Most everyone I approached who wasn’t still ENSARED by the group wanted to talk… nightmares…” These are the ones we had to deal with in those days. Remember, even Hill et al. authors say we dealt with the dregs of society (with exceptions). So, imagine the problems we had to address. All manner of sins & crimes came into our midst. But overall, the majority were willing to change, go forward in mission work. The ones Hill interviews are those who did not, would not “endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Tim. 2:3). We were a training corps, not a nice comfortable church where one can live like HELL & expect to make HEAVEN! NO! Our training was ROUGH-on-RATS. It was & still is voluntary! We’ve always had a “swinging-door” policy. Take D. Dye (Black male) who came to us from Chicago. He did good for a long while. But he & his first wife (also a Sgt.) wanted to separate. They did (of course we were blamed!). He married his wife’s cousin. After a while they wanted to separate. They did (we, again, were blamed). Then D.D. got eyes for a young Mexican (Sgt.). He wanted us to marry them. We refused, hence, he became an enemy! Hill never gives background data on his “victims”. Oh, no, he wouldn’t have a “pity me” story to write.
In Short
Hill tells Sauer, “I never wanted The Oracle’s Daughter to be strictly for devourers of true crime. I want it to appeal to general nonfiction, or even fiction, readers, & hope they have the same THRILL (my emphasis) of discovering & understanding how & why cults can be so effective as I did.” Yeah, right, Harrison – at the expense of our lives you lie about, degrade, mock, blaspheme, assassinate our character every chance you get. Ex-ACMTC members – “victims of cruel James & Deborah Green” – tell only their side of things.
“God, No!”
At the end of the interview, Hill was asked “… Did you ever feel metaphorically like you were in the cult?” H: “I never felt like, ‘oh wow, is Deborah really the prophet?’ God, No!” When one reads Hill’s writings, one will immediately discern his HATRED for Deborah. He mocks prophecy, as if it’s not in the Bible as a spiritual gift (see 1 Cor. 12:10 / Rom. 12:6 / Acts 11:27 etc.) He mocks Tongues (also a Spiritual gift).
Thank God, Hill et al. is not our judge. Being worldly-minded, they can’t perceive spiritual things. As for all the “abuse/horror” these carnal men & women write about, they fail to mention the made-up stories (lies) from the other side. Do they criticize the State for withholding vital evidence from Deborah’s trial that could have kept her from serving 4 1/2 years in a woman’s prison. Without that evidence being discovered – the State HID it – She would be in prison for 72 years. Why don’t these “Cult Experts” examine the dirty cops, the dirty DAs, the dirty attorneys, the dirty ex-ACMTC members? How does Hill et al. know if they told the truth. Because they say it, we’re supposed to believe it?
Hill finishes with, “it was a thoroughly rewarding experience… rich & compelling. It was a thrill… entertaining…” So, tearing all of us to shreds is a thrill, entertaining? Need I say any more?
