Deprecating, deprecatory, and depreciatory are words that have been introduced into the discussion of deprecate and depreciate. When I first heard the words “deprecatory prayer” it was in the early 1990’s. It is necessary in God’s timing.
The oldest of the terms is “deprecatory.” The Oxford English Dictionary shows that it was originally used of prayer. One writer took the adjective into the secular world (1704), where it has been used, ever since, in the sense of “seeking to avert disapproval, apologetic.”
Deprecatory later developed its second sense of “disapproving.” In such use the word is hard to distinguish from “depreciatory.” (Frankly, many people are as confused as I once was.) “Depreciatory is a 19th century word that regularly means disparaging.” Deprecating, from the present participle of the verb, is another 19th century word. It is used like “deprecatory.”
Warning
Webster tells us that our present evidence shows that the use of “deprecation” is increasing slightly while that of “deprecatory” and “depreciatory” is not.
Take Note:
Contrary to the views of some “word” guardians of the language, “deprecate” and “depreciate” are seldom confused. “Depreciate” is the easier of the 2 words to deal with – some say. Its oldest use is the disparaging sense.
Usages:
Example – “True politeness in China demands that you should depreciate everything of your own and exalt everything belonging to your correspondent” (taken from Lord Frederic Hamilton, “Vanished Pomps of Yesterday,” 1934).
This use appears to be receding, as “depreciate” comes more and more to be perceived as a technical term, relating to $$ matters. But its figurative use denotes “disparagement”:
Example – “The body count by which Vietnam was officially and journalistically reported is as good an illustration as any, of how we have depreciated the value of human life” (taken from Ramsey Clark, Center Magazine, 1970).

So, depreciate is a relatively simple word, but deprecate is not. Its early uses are strongly influenced by the religious associations of “deprecation,” its older relative, which was used as the name of aparticular kind of prayer – a prayer for REMOVAL or averting of something EVIL or DISASTROUS.
The “Call-to-Arms” or “Call-to-Special-Strike-Force” is the call to zero-in on a specific target or target, by the Spirit, that God wants destroyed! Trained “Spirit Snipers” are special.
It is a shame and a disgrace to see so little “Action-to-Revolution” these days in the Church and in the State!
The enemy / enemies are prating fools, like Proverbs 10:8 says: “The wise in heart will receive commands, but a prating fool will fall”; lit., “the foolish of lips,” that is, boasters, braggarts. If you listen to those in the Democratic party, you’ll hear how they claim to be wiser than those in the GOP. Backslid reprobates in the Church brag and boast about how much more enlightened they are – since they have MORE LOVE than those who oppose their LGBTQ+ / Womb HOMICIDE / love of the world.
While the GOP, patriots, Christians and others are wringing their hands in fright at the sight of the liberal PLIGHT, many of them STILL REFUSE TO FIGHT! The world needs to get saved and JOIN IN THE SPIRIT REVOLUTION, and the Christians need to get off their lazy butts and GET ACTIVEIN THE REVOLUTION!
The silly notion that God is going to take us “up, up and away to Heaven” while we refuse to “fight the good fight,” “wage the good warfare” (see 1 Timothy 1:18; 6:12) is the height of foolishness. All are called to join the SPIRIT fight on behalf of the Gospel of Christ Jesus.
The notion of seeking or hoping to turn aside or avert something undesirable – like cultural Marxism that is taking over the whole of the U.S.!!! – without Christian action, intercession and travailing prayer, is sheer madness.
Ward Off
There is a certain amount of “dread” in the words deprecate, deprecatory, and depreciatory: dread to apply these terms, and a dread to face why we need to apply these terms. How many DREAD to face the enemies that are literally destroying their nation, let alone face the fact that sin and demons IN PEOPLE are destroying the TRUE EKKLESIA of God?
We may – let me reword this – we WILL find both DREAD and FEAR when we seek to WARD OFF the enemies of God. Yet take note of God’s command to Joshua when he was about to go into ruthless enemy territory:
“BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE” (Joshua 1:6).
“Only BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS” (1:7).
“BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE; DO NOT BE AFRAID, NOR BE DISMAYED” (1:9).
“Do not be AFRAID, nor be DISMAYED; be STRONG and of a GOOD COURAGE,” Joshua told the people (10:25).
Terrible are the potentialities of a Marxist takeover! We MUST NOT WASTE any more time living in dread and fear. We MUST BE more determined than ever to prevent the Marxists, aka, SWAMP SERPENTS / WOKE WARRIORS, from turning this nation into a HELLSCAPE. If God cannot raise up a Special Strike Force in the Spirit, America will continue on a DEATH MARCH, an inexorable death march to its UTTER RUINATION. The Communist contagion is killing us. We MUST PRAY for this nation to REPENT AND TURN back again to the Living God, or it will be LOST FOREVER.
Deprecate or Depreciate
No matter which word one may use, it is the ACTION THAT COUNTS. Marxism states clearly that it cannot and will not coexist with non-Marxism. So, why should we try to coexist with the enemies of God and His people? Compromise is a virus, a plague. It is TIME to SEEK, STRIKE, AND DESTROY the enemy stronghold by deprecatory prayer!
