“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be bold like men, and be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).
Watch! Stand! Be bold! Be strong! Does this describe today’s church? Hardly. What we have is a bunch of sissie-la-las that will stand for the world quicker than they will stand up for Christ and His gospel.
We’re told in Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians to “take up (i.e. “put on”) the whole armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done all, TO STAND. STAND therefore…” Ephesians 6:13,14. Sadly, today’s weak kneed churchites are lying in bed with the world, their armor thrown in a heap.
One can be physically impaired yet still standing in God – for His principles, statutes, laws, judgments, etc. It reminds me when a child was corrected by his father. His father told him to sit down and listen to correction/instruction. He was throwing a real fit of anger. He simply refused to sit! His father grabbed him and slammed him into the chair in which the child screamed, “I’m still standing up inside!!”
Have you ever had to take a stand against a barrage of accusations, opinions, insults in order to STAND strong for Christ. I remember working for my brother-in-law, an ex-marine, who cussed and drank like a marine! I had only been a believer for 7 months and on a construction job – which he was BOSS! Him and my other brother-in-law decided to rescue me from the “God thing.” They mocked all day and finally threw a can of beer all over me. I had stopped using alcohol once I believed. They did this to make my wife think I had backslid into their ungodly camp! I had already made my STAND, so their little attacks didn’t change one iota. They wanted me to drink with them and participate in their sinful activities. Later on in the years this first brother-in-law lost his family (6 kids/wife) a good business, his drivers license and finally he lost his mind and committed suicide! The second one lost his family as well (5 kids). I’m still married to the most godly woman in the world and still serve Christ.
When one is outnumbered (both of their wives, my sisters were against my belief also) it can be challenging to STAND UP for Christ. If you find yourself losing faith, cry out for His strength to STAND!
