— General James Green, Oct. 2006 —
C.T. STUDD (1862-1931) was the famous athlete who gave away his fortune and fame to follow Jesus called the Christ. Studd preached a short but powerful sermon called “The Chocolate Soldier” in which he compared the real Christian soldier to a mere “parade soldier” (a Churchianity “Christian”). He called the latter “The Otherwise Christian” which “dissolves in water and melts at the smell of fire. Sweeties they are! Bonbons, lollipops! Living their lives on a glass dish or in a cardboard box, each clad in his/her soft clothing, a little frilled white paper to preserve his/her dear little delicate constitution.” Sounds like these pink-pamper-wearing sissies of today!
These “come as you are, stay as you are” nurseries (churches) we have today! Let us all sing now:
“Round and round the nursery
Let us ambulate;
Sugar and spice and all that’s nice
Must be on our slate.”
Let me state plainly here that in this hour and in this generation, the “Chocolate Soldiers” are the ones that merely go to see battles, and cowardly urge others to fight them! Oh, yes, we’ve run across many of these “sweeties” in our years of service. Let them stay home with their “dry nurses”, for they are really a hindrance when the fight is on. Holy Ghost trained men/women of God are the ones who will “Damn the Devil” and go on to victory.
What? Theological schools turning out fearless fighters? NEVER! Stay in your “religious retreats” (called churches!) my dears, for God is looking for a few good soldiers, a few soldiers “Par Excellence” (“above all others”), and so are we.
Beware! “Chocolate sweeties” who go about singing all the “hard” sayings of Jesus and the New Testament writers, yet who refuse either to judge, rebuke or put away evil, are DANGEROUS! Their defiance of the truth, their hiding of their sin or sins, their deficiency of any real grit or gut makes them like “dead flies” which “cause the ointment of the perfumer to putrefy and send forth a vile odor…” (Eccl. 10:1a).
Harken to Jesus’ Words about John the Baptist: “What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and MORE THAN A PROPHET. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee” (Matt. 11:7-10). John was no “sweety”—the “sweeties” were right in front of Jesus as Jesus spoke of John’s true soldier-character.
Yea, my dear readers, we too have these creampuffs among us—the Pharisees, Sadducees, PhD’s, priests, scribes, lawyers and many other such hypocrites! Oh, for real aggressive men and women of God today!
John was pure solid granite, “not a bit of clay in him.” Using the words of the Apostle Paul, John was certainly “a good (first class) soldier of Christ Jesus” (II Tim. 2:3, Amp. Bible).
Knaves and fools! are the ones who think and act according to the dictates of mere human reason. Straight, bold, aggressive and true make up the Royal Regiment of the crucified and risen King, who Himself stood unconquerable before the sick vice-president of Hell, Caiaphas the high priest.
Where do you stand (or sit!) today, Christian? With Christ or against Him? Tell the truth. Are you one of the creampuffs I write about? Do you make it your business to tell every man, woman, boy and girl the UNVARNISHED TRUTH, regardless of the consequences? Jesus did! The New Testament writers did!
The dark graveyards of Christendom are “littered with corpses that have died of the diseases of cowardice and compromise.” “Chocolates”, as Studd called them, are very fond of “eating, sleeping and retreating.” It’s difficult to sound the Battle Cry when your mouth is full of chocolate caramels (sticky-jaws!). Don’t’ you agree?
The Apostles led the war of God to the uttermost parts of the earth. My friends, we have a new century, a new millennium and a 2000-year-old command to “GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD!”
Damn this Laodicean age!—press the battle; fight the good fight of faith. Boycott HELL! Will you fear or will you fight? Shall your brethren go to war and shall ye sit here? Wilt thou be a miser and withhold what honour demands of thee—wilt thou be as Ananias and Sapphira, giving only part and consequently dying under the judgment hand of God? Consider!
Make NO MISTAKE, professor of Christ, “Some shall rise to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” This is in your Bible.
If you would like to receive a free “AMMO PACK” of booklets and tracts, write us. Time flies, souls perish. If you have a coward’s heart, God can heal it. To your knees and to your Bible!
