“The group’s profits were used to support them in Berino, and on missions to countries including India, Nigeria, and Malawi, where Deborah sought out new recruits. She also used these trips to scout for a new potential headquarters; she wanted to have options, should the legal heat ever grow too intense.”
— A quote from Harrison1
Is this an accurate depiction of Deborah’s or ACMTC’s motivation for missions? It’s not a small statement. Harrison is undermining ACMTC’s purpose, drive, calling. It’s character assassination, aimed primarily at Deborah.
WHO ARE THE GENERALS, PERSONALLY?
Christians. Revolutionary Christians. Christians who have shared their faith since they were saved back on December 6, 1971. Long before there was an ACMTC, they were witnessing in the streets, confronting old friends with the truth, proclaiming their faith in Jesus!
Additionally, both James and Deborah went through missionary church training for 5 years under Neil Sanders, pastor of a Christ Gospel International church in Owensboro, Kentucky. The church’s Headquarters in Jeffersonville, IN, eventually sent Jim and Deborah on a mission to a small town about 2-3 hours outside Mexico City, Mexico. There the Greens took charge of an orphanage and continued sharing Christ.
A little while after this, on another mission, the Greens followed the call of God’s Spirit to Central and South America. Traveling by truck and boat (which they soon found out was a literal pirate ship heading to a deadly port!), Jim and Deborah, along with their two small children, made it through danger, civil-war-torn Nicaragua, ultimately ending in Venezuela. Jesus guided and kept them! All the danger, all the prayers, all the witnessing, was to obey God’s Call to follow His Spirit and “Go into all nations…” (Matthew 28:19-20).
On the way back, they landed in Miami, Florida. In Florida, both got jobs as counselors working at the Salvation Army Headquarters. Counseling and witnessing, both of them worked to save souls, to set free the captives of drink and drugs. And souls did receive Christ! Jesus was glorified there!
[ Below is “The Necks of Our Enemies,” the booklet we printed years ago, chronicling Jim and Deborah’s entire Central/South America mission trip. We are currently posting the booklet online, found here. Thank Jesus!]

A bit after this, back in Montana, Jim and Deborah continued spreading the Gospel. Then it was on to California, where James wrote and graphically designed his own Revolutionary Christian booklet series called “Son of Dominion.” Again, all this was before God established ACMTC. The drive for daily witnessing was motivated by Jesus’ LOVE to share Truth with the world.
The Greens pedaled bikes around town, passing out Christian literature, placing tracts in phone booths or any vacant spot where someone might find them. Literature was (and is) one of the best ways to reach people who might otherwise not speak with you or ever step foot in a church building. Remember, too, there was no internet. Literature evangelism was an act of LOVE to help those in need.
ACTION! Christianity in ACTION! That’s what Jim and Deborah were practicing – before ACMTC, before community, before anyone else wanted to join up with them for the sake of spreading the Truth in LOVE.
All those years, they were recruiting, for Christ. Nothing was for their own gain. Quite the opposite! Have YOU ever put effort into trying to reach the lost? Do you know how difficult it is? How humbling it can be? Witnessing is the Way of Christ who did ALL for OTHERS. WITNESSING IS SACRIFICE, whether you do it alone or with a community.
Jesus originated missions for New Testament believers. He pressed, through the pain, the heartache, knowing what men thought of Him, knowing how so many accused Him of wrong motives (Luke 13:10-17; Mark 3:1-6; John 2:24-25; and many others). We must follow His example.
Christ Jesus commands all Christians to “RECRUIT” for Him, in and by the Spirit: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, [even] to the end of the age. Amen.”2
So, the missionary calling did not start with the founding of ACMTC as some means to gain “numbers” or control people, as might be inferred by some. Missions is Christian. It’s what all Christians should be doing. Upon founding ACMTC, under God, the missions for souls simply continued. As men and women joined ACMTC, all sought to SAVE SOULS, WHICH IS STILL OUR CENTRAL FOCUS!
Harrison wrote, “…where Deborah sought out new recruits.”1 Apparently, this is his way of slapping a stranger in the face.
Does Harrison realize the cost of missions? I don’t mean money. I mean, both Generals, along with many members, exposed themselves to diseases, hardships, the dangers of foreign travel and even potential death. Realize, also, they weren’t flying first class or living it up in the “best” hotels. Why subject yourself to this? LOVE for the lost.
Harrison is missing the point: souls. After reading this article, you can see that Jesus gave the Generals a LOVE for the salvation of souls – before they were Generals. This LOVE continued, and does continue, for all who are truly thankful that He has saved them!
All members of ACMTC feel the same. Jesus said, “observe all things that I have commanded you,” and that’s what we are trying to do. So when people like Harrison make comments like, “Deborah sought out new recruits”1, remember how TEAMS of people went overseas, and we all still witnessing for Christ!
“She [Deborah] also used these trips to scout for a new potential headquarters; she wanted to have options, should the legal heat ever grow too intense.”1 I think statements like these show even more how Harrison carries completely wrong motives. We believe his defamation is his way of building up an audience-grabbing narrative – that SELLS! It’s a risky business, though, since his narrative so far is libelous, besides certainly inaccurate. It’s not like he doesn’t have access to detailed facts that tell the other side of the story. He could just go here, and here.
REAL PERSONAL HISTORY, NOT HEARSAY
I lived in the Generals’ home for years, and lived in the same building as other ACMTC members for many years. I watched mailbag after mailbag leave the house for the post office. So many Bibles were sent out! Volumes of booklets were given away. Uncountable amounts of tracts were distributed worldwide, for FREE. God made a way for ACMTC to cover all costs – to help all brethren in Christ that we could. Thank Jesus, we were able to spiritually feed the recruits in God’s Army who never lived with us, but whom we cared deeply about and still care for, all around the world!
JESUS GETS THE GLORY FOR IT ALL! He made it possible. We NEVER could have done it without Him. Jesus has always made the way, and still makes the way, when there is no way!
Harrison’s little quips and jabs at Deborah are so inaccurate. Literally multitudes can vouch for that in many nations! His failing specious remarks against her demonstrate more than an absence of REAL personal knowledge; I believe his words reveal ulterior motives. Prodded by baseless sources, which cannot be used to assume even second-hand personal knowledge, Harrison remains ignorant of the Generals’ true history, sacrificial actions and Christian lifestyle. He doesn’t know them. He doesn’t know the rest of us, either. One thing I do believe he knows: he knows what might sell, even though it’s not the truth.
