This is what jail/prison can be for those who are here or there. It doesn’t have to be a place of horror — although that is a possibility — but it can be a place of refinement of the “self.” I was reading Isaiah 26 this morning and verse 3, which I’ve read dozens of times over my 47 plus years of being a believer in Christ. But being in jail (over a year at this writing) it meant more to me: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.” The key to that “perfect peace” is keeping our minds upon God and His Word.
We all know that the “human you” is contrary to the “Divine Him”, that is, the Holy Spirit, that is within us (Paul struggles with this in his writings in Romans 7:7-25). One Christian author once wrote: “…the human nature is contrary, it is the way the animal is made, for man is always contrary to his inner self and the problem is to melt these two into one so that there is no conflict.”
The New Testament tells us to “mortify, crucify the flesh” … putting it to “death” as it were. Christians have lost this Biblical concept, hence, “carnal Christians” vs. “spiritual Christians”; and hence, “Babylon Churchianity” exists in contrast to the True Ekklesia.
Today’s Christian has taken the lazy lie-in-the-sun attitude, so there’s no discipline nor desire for the higher life that is called “perfection,” i.e., maturity. Too lazy to put vigor into discipline!
The Bible speaks about refinement (like gold being refined as well as silver). Look out for those fleshly appetites, for the things of the world that poison our thoughts!
Some of the inmates (most!) in here who claim to be “Christian” use the most filthy language, especially the “F” word. This language that is of the gutter poisons their whole testimony. We need to be AWARE, with eyes, minds, hearts and ears open, to the “Black Operations” (Black Ops or B.O.) in secular language of the “self,” working hand-in-hand with the master of B.O., satan!!
We’re instructed to be “a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3), not a soldier in Satan’s army. It is our duty to ATTACK and DESTROY, always advancing in the things of the Spirit, not the flesh. William James (1842-1910) gave a sound piece of advice: “The things we cherish most are at the mercy of the things we cherish least.” WHAT DO YOU CHERISH?
