“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatsoever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” -Jn. 16:13
The “Spirit of truth “is none other than the Holy Spirit. John 14:17 says, “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor know Him; but you (disciples) know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” – verse 16 calls the Spirit of truth, “Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” verse 20 says, “At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” These verses show us the Trinity, aka, Tri-unity, aka, Triadic – Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:14,15 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption…” This is the same Spirit of Truth John wrote about. V.16 reads: “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our (human) spirit that we are children of God.”
The “Helper” in Jn. 14:16 is also called “comforter [Greek: “Paraklētos”]. 1Cor. 2:14 tells us that “the natural man (unsaved) does not receive the things of the Spirit of God… nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
First John calls the Holy Spirit, aka, Holy Ghost, “the anointing (1Jn. 2:27). It says that the anointing will teach as we continue to abide in Him and Him in us. So, it is important that we, as born-again believers, dedicate our whole lives in service to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Some think that Church membership is all that is required. This is false! We’ve got, first off, to be saved; then allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives. When we are unsaved, we are BLIND so to speak. We can’t perceive spirit truth UNLESS we have the Spirit of Truth. Just as God/His Spirit led His people, Israel, in “paths they have not known,” He will lead/guide us spiritual Jews also; “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them…” -Isa. 42:16. This pretty much sums up the New Testament Christian’s walk.
Let us allow the Holy Spirit to take charge of our walk. There would be no need for the Holy Spirit to come if our human spirit was sufficient. (See Ephesians 2:4-22)
