“The fool has said in his heart, ‘there is no God!” Ps. 14:1
There are several (Heb.) words describing who & what a “fool” is: [#5036, as in Ps. 14:1] Nâbâl = “stupid; wicked, esp. impious, vile person.” [other definitions can be looked up; #191; 3684; 5536] (In Greek there are also several words; #3473; 876;8474; 3912)
Jesus spoke a parable in which He said of His Father, “But God said to him (the rich man), ‘FOOL! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things (things & riches) be which you have provided?” – Luke 12:20. Here the Greek [#876] = aphros = [a prim. word meaning, “froth,” i.e., “foaming.”]
That definition reminds me of someone foaming at the mouth, literally or figuratively, I’ve listened/watched debates between Christians & atheists. Those on the atheism side rant & rave, slobber & foam at the mouth, as they rail against those who believe in God.
Reminds me of a story I read about how Liberal, MO. got its name. There was an atheist (‘A’), Robert Owen, & a Christian (‘C’), Alexander Campbell, who debated in 1829. [later a “freethought” movement began in 1850]. Following on the heels of this was crazy Charles Darwin’s book, “On the Origin of Species” (which has now been read & believed by most “smart” people in America!). This antichrist book was published in 1859. Following this was a time – 1875 thru 1914 – known as “The Golden Age of Freethought.” The master & top leader of this anti-God movement was the “great agnostic,” Robert Ingersoll. (one can research all this on the internet et al. sources.)
But back to Liberal, MO: A lawyer named George Walser, slobbering follower of Ingersoll, wanted to form a eutopia for free thinkers, so in 1880 he bought 2000 acres to establish Liberal, MO. It was to BE an ATHEIST UTOPIA… no Biblical God! no HELL! no Churches! no Christians that practiced Christianity! He believed that all these were superstitions for primitive human thinkers! When this community was finally established, people moving there had to promise not to hold any religious services. But a man named William Waggoner bought adjacent land and invited Jesus worshippers to move onto it – hence, a religious/ atheist war! Conservatives v. liberals. A fence was set up (barbed) between the two WARRING parties. The “Liberals” set out to DEFEAT the “Conservative Christians.” “Posted” signs were put up on the “Liberal” side; “Christians Not Welcome.” The Christians began to outnumber the “Liberals.” Court battles ensued. Walser (the lawyer) reserved Sunday evenings for debates & speeches at the Univ. Mental Liberty Hall: Evolution vs. Creationism being the favorite.
In 1886, Walser founded Free Thought University with courses that were “untrammeled by Bible, creed, or isms.” But Churches began to be built in 1889 to counter all this.
One can only surmise where all this was headed.
The truth of it all is that Walser eventually became a “Jesus-ite.” His conversion was a miracle. In 1909 he wrote his first book called, “The Life & Teachings of Jesus.” Just a few years after his conversion!
This one-time atheist gave up on his atheist dream, sold his Liberty Hall to the Methodist church and became a believer. Upon his death in 1910, excerpts were read out of his book at his funeral.
Historic: Today, “Darwin Street” & “Ingersoll Street” remind Liberal, MO of its FAILED ATHEIST HERITAGE. Glory to our God!!!
Most Americans never heard of these names except that of Charles Darwin, whose name is equal with Jesus’ in the secular world of unbelievers. “Social Darwinism” is what rules in our colleges & universities & grades 1-12 schools. Christianity has been banned! But more & more Darwinites are being converted to Christ. Darwin may rule from the grave, but Jesus arose from the grave to live in the hearts of the believers. Social Darwinism teaches the false idea that spirit / soul / eternal life are but chemical actions of the brain. This reminds me of Romans 1:23-28; Psalms 14:1
When one studies Darwin’s rants / lies etc., one will discover that he built many disclaimers / conditions into his arguments. His attempts to explain his disbelief in “Creationism” have failed. Science attempts to analyze the created universe behind which IS GOD! Look at the deterioration of our culture because of atheist teachings. The sun (SON) is setting upon this nation that once believed in Jesus Christ the Lord – CREATOR & SAVIOR. Now we have the Liberals / Hard Left / Atheists wanting to destroy the little that is left.
Time to FIGHT for what is Right!
