This RW thing has become a way of life for many. Ever since the “60’s Revolution,” rebellion against the status quo has been normalized. Rock/Rap songs promote it. Kids grow up under the “stars” whose lifestyles are obnoxious, violent, and extremely malevolent in nature… drugs, alcohol, sex – LOTS!! Theft, murder etc. etc. They think they are FREE but the truth is, they are PRISONERS.
“For FREEDOM Christ freed us. Stand fast therefore and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1). One can be physically free yet BOUND inwardly.
The first Christians were mostly Jews, and were used to being under the mosaic law with strict rules/regulations. It was good but something better was coming for the Jews. The “law” was the precursor to the Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord, who would set men/women FREE inwardly!
Galatians 3:19-25 explains that the “law” was given by God to convict the Israelites of sin and eventually lead them to the Savior… “But the scriptures has confined all things under sin, that the promise through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe” (v.22). Verse 23 tells us that “Before faith came, we were IMPRISONED under the law, kept for the faith which was later to be revealed.” So, the apostle Paul tells us that SIN is a prison house as well as being under the law. He goes on to tell us that “The law was our tutor to bring us to Christ…” (v. 24).
But we need laws, if not, we’re lawless. Outward laws keep us in check but we also need the law of God written upon our hearts so as we don’t become like a wild ass or dog running here and there – SINNING/committing crimes that if caught will land us into a physical prison.
Liberals condemn conservatives for being too rigid (rules that fence us in); conservatives condemn liberals for having little if no fences, allowing the people to do as they please.
But Christ freed us to obey Him out of love (see John 14:21), and to serve one another in love (Galatians 3:13).
John 8:36 tells us “If the Son sets you (me) free, you (me) will be FREE indeed.” Why I realize that mere outward laws won’t make a person “law abiding,” the Spirit of God within will lead/guide into the right path of life. Being but human we sometimes get off the right path and sin. Always repent. [Galatians 5:13-15]
